Barley with Green Peas

You will need:

  • 3/4 cup pearl barley
  • 1/2 cup green peas
  • 1 1/4 cups pure water
  • Rock salt to taste(optional)
  • 1/2 tsp whole cumin seed
  • 1/2 tsp minced ginger
  • 1 tsp finely chopped cilantro
  • 1 tbsp ghee

Bring the water to a boil in a pot.

Add barley, cover, reduce heat and cook at a gentle simmer for about 35-40 minutes until grain is tender.

Heat ghee in a pan until it is clear.

Add the whole cumin and stir briefly to release aroma.

Add peas and ginger and cook covered for 3-4 minutes.

Fold the peas and salt into the barley and stir to mix well.

Garnish with the fresh cilantro.

Enjoy warm.
